Are You Storing Your Famous Art Pictures On Photobucket?
Are you storing famous art pictures on photobucket or indeed any of the other top photo sharing sites available to artists? If you are you could find yourself in deep water if those images don’t belong to you. But, with so many people searching on line for famous art pictures it can really help you as
an art marketer to know what people are looking for and to tag your own art pictures with those terms. If you don’t fully understand what I mean then let me explain.
When you upload photos onto any of the many photo sharing sites you are given the option to add descriptive tags to your art work to describe it. This also helps your work to get found as people using the site and searching for images of a particular type can find and favour your artwork. Some of these images will also come up in search results for long tail keywords (terms which are specific as opposed to general – I’ll talk more about this later) and if you know what to tag to your work you can benefit from the search engine traffic.
So, with thousands of daily searches for “Van Gogh Sunflowers” and “Andy Warhol pop art”, is it acceptable to tag your own art pictures with these terms in order to benefit from the traffic?
Is this ethical you might ask? In my opinion it is but here’s the line…….
Your own pictures should have some relevance to those being tagged. So, let’s take the tag “Andy Warhol pop art“. If you’re painting seascapes in Devon then this is likely to be seen as related so don’t tag but if you are producing Andy Warhol influenced work which others who like Warhol would like then I believe the tag is acceptable. Let me know what you think!
