Online Photo Sharing for Artists With Kodak EasyShare
Rounding out our top 10 List of photo sharing web sites is Kodak Easyshare Gallery or more commonly called Kodak Gallery. Although not as feature laden as some of the other top 10 candidates we looked at in our review of the top ten photo sharing sites for artists, Kodak Gallery is still a force to be reckoned with. Over 60 million users and billions of images make up the core business on this web site.
PC World in its July 2006 issue named Kodak Gallery as one of the best 100 products of the year. Similar reviews appeared in the New York Times in
2007 and the Boston Globe in 2008. Well, I guess they must be doing something right.
- Features
On line photo sharing, prints of digital pictures, photo storage and photo gifts are some of the features of Kodak Gallery. All it takes to start your own free Gallery is your first name and email address when you register. Once done, you can upload photos from a number of sources including your camera phone, PC, digital camera and 35mm film.
A guest book that allows visitors to write comments upon viewing your photos is a nice touch and especially handy when dealing with family and friends. Prints, photo books and photo greeting cards all add a personal touch to treasured images. On line storage is unlimited and free for 12 months from your first upload. As long as your account is “active”, meaning you have made one purchase from the Gallery in the past 12 months, your images remain safe and stored.
But there are more services available to subscribers. That list includes; Digital picture frames with preloaded cards, DVD Slideshows via Photohow, Archive CD’s, Picture Frames for prints, PhotoStamps, Mobile Subscriptions, a Premier Service that for a fee provides unique web addresses, full resolution downloads password protection, and a unique credit system in place for loss of photos in the event of a natural disaster, theft or hard drive crash. There is even integration with MySpace, via Slide.com and a voice application with Skype technology.
One of the most user-friendly top 10 sites reviewed, uploading was easy but somewhat limited when compared to the choices offered by others.
The Help/Support system is well organized with detailed instructions to problem solving. If you are really stuck, an email address puts you in touch with a solution provider.
For those wanting a no frills, inexpensive, easy to use service, Kodak Easy Share offers that and much more. Quick and easy uploading, a guest book for recording comments on your photos, product purchases, unlimited uploading providing you make a purchase from the Gallery and a whole lot more. Pretty impressive list of features even at a number 10 ranking.
Kodak EasyShare Gallery may not offer some features like blogging and access to other’s albums or photos which artists would consider essential marketing tools but what it can do, it does well. It’s quick and easy and well worth consideration for those of us looking for simple photo sharing with family and friends.
